Last month the government announced changes to the Specific Purpose work visa category. Those undertaking seasonal work for an accredited employer may be able to apply for a Specific Purpose work visa, rather than an Accredited Employer work visa. The main requirements are:
- The work must be seasonal – That is, work undertaken during a peak of activity for an industry that is impacted by weather and only takes place during part of the year
- Median wage – Applicants must be paid $29.66/hour or more
- Accredited employer – Applications must be supported by an accredited employer
- Full time – The role offered must be a minimum of 30 hours per week
- Start date – The role must commence on or before 31 May 2025
- Experience – Applicants must have at least four months of relevant work experience
- Labour market – The employer must have advertised for at least two weeks
- Visa duration – The maximum visa duration is nine months
