On 7 April 2024 the government announced some significant changes to Accredited Employer work visa applications. The key changes are:
- Minimum standard of English: Applicants for ANZSCO skill level 4 and 5 roles must meet English language requirements. For those who don’t meet the work or schooling in English requirement, an English test will be required with a score of IELTS 4 (or equivalent).
- Minimum skills threshold: As well as meeting any employer requirements for the role, all applicants must show they have at least three years of relevant experience or a recognised relevant level 4 qualification or higher.
These changes apply to any Accredited Employer work visa application submitted on or after 7 April 2024. The changes will make it difficult for many migrants with lower skilled job offers to come to New Zealand or to remain in New Zealand.
