Only some specified overseas qualifications are recognised in New Zealand for immigration purposes. If your overseas qualification is not recognised, and you need it to be recognised to apply for a visa, you will need to apply to have it assessed by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA). The NZQA carries out an evaluation of your overseas qualification and then provides a report which sets out the level or qualification it is comparable to (if any) on the New Zealand Qualifications Framework. This report is called an International Qualification Assessment (IQA).
Obtaining an IQA can be an important part of the immigration process. For example, if you intend to apply for residence under the Skilled Migrant Category and wish to claim points for an overseas qualification, you may need to obtain an IQA.
We can assist with:
- Determining if your qualification is recognised in New Zealand
- Determining if an IQA is required for your visa
